KMBC's Justin Robinson reported that about a dozen investigators in white suits were in front and in back of a green shed behind the Irwin home. He said he could see investigators raking the area and moving lumber. Investigators were also digging near the back of the shed and moving brush.
Mahoney said that just after noon, reporters heard a loud noise in the area. He said it sounded like an electrical transformer blowing and was followed by a wisp of white smoke rising from behind or near the south side of the house.
Mahoney said police did not explain the noise and did not react as if there had been a sudden emergency or injury.
