Short said she learned that her services were no longer needed through media reports, not from the parents’ New York attorney, Joe Tacopina. When she contacted Lisa’s parents, Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, they told her they thought it would be best for them to work with Tacopina, she said.

She said she thought the parents’ legal team should be paying more attention to gathering support and information locally; Tacopina was more interested in national exposure of the case, she said.

“When I got involved in this case, I did it to stand up for Jeremy and Deborah and to prevent any kind of wrongful arrest or conviction,” she said.

She said Tacopina did not support her efforts to reach out to the public through local media.

She said it was his decision, not hers, to cancel a media tour of the couple’s home, and to delay another interview with Lisa’s brothers.
