#LisaIrwin : Did KC Police Suspect Lisa's Parents From The Start ?

I suspect what police will tell us once this mystery is solved is that when a child is missing, you proceed on all fronts. You wouldn’t want to rule out the possibility of a stranger abduction. But it appears as though police concluded fairly quickly that the more plausible explanation is that one or both of Lisa’s parents know something about her disappearance.

Kansas City police upped the ante last night by calling a news conference and announcing that the parents had stopped cooperating. The family denied the assertion, but the very public announcement creates the impression that police are no longer pursuing this case as an abduction.

For the department, it’s a risky gambit. If the baby turns out to have been taken without the parents’ knowledge, police will have a lot of explaining to do.

But honestly, what are the chances of somebody walking in a house on the one night the door is unlocked and taking nothing but a baby and the family’s supply of cell phones?

The story is the talk of the town, but the prospects for a happy outcome are looking increasingly dim. Law enforcement officers Friday afternoon were searching a Johnson County landfill. They confirmed the search was related to Lisa’s disappearance
