More evidence released on Casey Anthony...
By Anthony Colarossi and Amy Pavuk, Orlando Sentinel
1:48 p.m. EST, January 28, 2011
New evidence released today in the Casey Anthony case includes audio recordings of a woman she befriended in jail.
Anthony befriended Robyn Adams while they were housed at the Orange County Jail. An investigator asked Adams how they communicated in jail.
"We would signal to each other, talk to each other, through hand gestures,'' Adams told an investigator.
The Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office released the recording, photos and various documents this morning.
Dozens of photos released today show aerial shots from a helicopter over the search area after Caylee Marie's disappearance in the summer of 2008. Other photos show search teams on the ground, including Texas EquuSearch and the organization's president Tim Miller.
Many documents released today involve Laura Buchanan, who has stated she searched in the area off Suburban Drive where Caylee's remains were found, despite many other claims that this area was impassable and under water at that time in the summer of 2008.
Texas EquuSearch has said none of the volunteers ever searched the exact area where Caylee's remains were found months after the searches. Today's documents show an extensive investigation aimed at getting to the bottom of Buchanan's claims through a series of interviews and recorded phone conversations.
A friend of Buchanan's, Anne W. Pham, said during a August 27, 2010 interview with Orange County Sheriff's Office Corporal Yuri Melich that she and Buchanan searched Blanchard Park in September 2008.
Pham also said Buchanan saw Casey Anthony after she was released from jail and Buchanan told her, "I saw her eyes and they looked evil."
Pham also recalled Buchanan saying a search off Suburban Drive was called off because "the water levels are really high."
Pham also said she found it "a little odd" that when they attended the child's memorial service that Buchanan "was so interested in being a part of, you know, being on CNN and, um, the Nancy Grace show or whatever." Pham also described Buchanan as "sensationalizing" in the stories she told.
The documents also include a transcript of a lengthy recorded conversation between Pham and Buchanan, during which Pham tries to find out about inconsistencies on forms documenting the searches. The Oct. 10, 2010 conversation was recorded by investigators.
Pham asks if Casey Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez has called Buchanan. "No, no, no. Uh-uh," Buchanan said. "I've only talked to him one time."
At another point, Buchanan said, "After all this [expletive] that I've heard after I wrote that statement…I could care less what they do to her…You know? All I did was tell the truth. Did not mean I was on her side…"
Buchanan also said, "I simply feel sorry for, for George and Cindy."
In yet another section, Buchanan says, "I mean, you know, I don't, I don't know if she did it, I don't care; all I know is, you know, whether or not she did it or not, the kid's still dead and, you know, somebody's gotta get, somebody's gonna get it for it."
In another recorded conversation between Pham and Buchanan's lawyer, Ray Brown, the lawyer tries to find out what Pham knows about his client, but ends up explaining why Buchanan retained him.
"I think it frightened her when she realized fully that she was likely to be a witness in the middle of a hotly contested case," Brown said. "And it doesn't mean that because a person hires a lawyer that they're guilty of something."
But Pham tells Brown she thinks Buchanan altered the search form and "made the sheet up" to get close to Cindy Anthony. "I think she likes the attention," Pham said. "I just think she likes being close to the action."
When Brown asked her if she thought Buchanan ever actually searched off Suburban Drive, Pham said, "I don't know."
In another recorded conversation in October, Buchanan tells Pham, "You know what. I said the [expletive] truth. I searched. I didn't see anything, nor did I find the body…Did I kill my kid? My kid's sitting up here in the house, all three of 'em, alive and well, and well. I didn't kill my [expletive] kid and all this [expletive] that they're, you know, I mean, I knew I shouldn't have ever gotten involved with it."
Anthony, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie in 2008. The trial is scheduled for May. She faces the death penalty if convicted.
A jury in the trial is expected to be selected from outside the Central Florida area and then sequestered here for the duration of the trial, which could last two months.
Also released are a series of recorded telephone conversations between Robyn Adams and her family that she made to them from the jail. In one of the phone conversations, Adams called an unidentified friend. That friend asked Adams if she's still rooming with Casey Anthony, and inquired as to how Anthony is.
Adams said Anthony didn't seem good.
"I'm praying for her every day," she said.
The friend asked if Anthony is a basket case. "Pretty much," Adams said.
The woman told Adams authorities found a body and believe it to be Caylee.
"I had a feeling that it might be, but nevertheless, it's not my place to judge her," Adams said.
"I've had a complete change of heart Mel since I've been here."
In another conversation with her dad, Adams asked her father to pray for Anthony and her parents.
"They really need it," Adams said.
The separate audio interview with Adams was previously released in the form of transcripts. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigator interviewed Adams at a correctional facility in Tallahassee on Feb. 12, 2010.
Adams is the wife of former Altamonte Springs police Officer Clay Adams. In 2008, the couple were arrested after setting up a marijuana-growing operation at a house in Chuluota.
Robyn Adams arrived at the Orange County Jail in July 2008 and left in April 2009.
Now she is serving a 10-year sentence at a federal prison in Tallahassee.
Check back later for more details on what the new discovery documents show.

Threatening Call: Drop Charges Against Casey
Phone Call To Amy Huizenga Among Evidence
UPDATED: 10:47 am EST January 28, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Among the evidence released Friday in the case against Casey Anthony is a phone call to one of Anthony's close friends, Amy Huizenga.
"You need to listen and listen good," a voice threatens. "Those charges need to get dropped."
It is not clear who made the call. Much of the rest of the call is inaudible.
Huizenga claimed Anthony stole money from her checking account. Anthony was charged with check fraud -- she eventually pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time served.
The charges were related to Anthony's alleged spending spree while her daughter, Caylee Anthony, was still missing. Huizenga, said her checking account was drained of about $700 without her permission.
Huizenga claims that Anthony partied while her daughter was missing for 31 days.
Hauizenga said Anthony confided in her. She later told authorities of Anthony’s stoic demeanor regarding her daughter.

Evidence: Pen Pal Reveals Details In Casey Case

Adams told investigators that Casey claimed to have been abused when she was younger, at the hands of her brother and father.
Adams saved her letters and shipped them to a friend on the outside. Adams, a convicted drug dealer, and currently in state prison, told investigators about how she built up a friendship with Casey. They traded letters by stuffing them in books inside the jail.
Adams painted the picture of Casey as someone upset with her family.
"I think I was just the one that was there. She didn't have anybody else. She felt like even her family turned on her," Adams told detectives.
Adams told investigators Casey felt betrayed by her mother, Cindy Anthony, who was doing talk shows, instead of going to her court hearings. She said Casey opened up about her childhood, sometimes in conversation, but mostly in letters.
When asked about sexual abuse, Adams told investigators Casey claimed she suffered the abuse at the hands of family members when she was young.
"She was younger, as if she went through a lot with her brother, a lot with her dad," Adams said.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The state released more evidence in the case against Casey Anthony Friday. Prosecutors released an interview that Casey Anthony's jailhouse pen pal, Robyn Adams, had with detectives on February 12, 2010.
Adams and Casey exchanged letters while she was in the Orange County jail before she was convicted on drug charges and sent to federal prison. Adams told detectives in the interview that Casey told her she was abused.Adams told investigators that Casey claimed to have been abused when she was younger, at the hands of her brother and father.
Adams saved her letters and shipped them to a friend on the outside. Adams, a convicted drug dealer, and currently in state prison, told investigators about how she built up a friendship with Casey. They traded letters by stuffing them in books inside the jail.

"She was younger, as if she went through a lot with her brother, a lot with her dad," Adams said.
As for the mystery baby sitter Zenaida Gonzales, who Casey claimed took her daughter Caylee, Adams said: "There was no Zenaida."
The investigator then asked, "Ok, did she tell you that?"
"Zenaida was a childhood friend," Adams replied.
There is also information on the internal investigation into corrections officer Silvia Hernandez. Hernandez helped Casey communicate with Robyn Adams.
Spain seeks truth on baby-trafficking claims
Families claim hospitals told them babies were dead, then sold them for adoption
- Giles Tremlett in Madrid
- guardian.co.uk,
- Article history
The tearful stories swapped outside the Spanish attorney general's office today were of nuns, priests and doctors trafficking in babies, of tiny corpses kept in fridges, of coffins without bodies and of mothers who only caught one fleeting glimpse of their newborn children.
She simply does not exist, but I heard her cry," said Ana Páez, 51. She was one of 261 mothers, fathers, siblings and adoptees demanding that authorities investigate whether they were victims of a baby-stealing network in Spanish hospitals.
Páez travelled from Barcelona today to add the daughter she says was born in 1981 at the Vall d'Hebron hospital to the other cases that campaigners want investigated by the courts.
"I want to know where she is," she said. "I have cried for her often and I want her to know that I didn't give her away, that she was stolen. Now I know I am not the only one."
Adela Alonso, 70, said: "The same thing happened to me in Valladolid in 1967. I heard that baby cry, but two days later they said he was dead and had buried him.
"I want him to know that he has two brothers and lots of cousins."
While most had no proof that their children were stolen, their stories had one thing in common – the absolute power exercised by maternity hospitals over their patients, especially poorer ones, for decades.
The fact that hospitals were responsible for burying children who died at childbirth meant the number of potentially suspicious cases was huge.
In some cases the paperwork is missing.
"We were told that there is no register, that our case simply does not exist," said Antonio Moreno, who was searching for a sister born at a clinic in Terrassa, near Barcelona, in 1967.
Clandestine networks that once encouraged single women to hand their babies over for secret adoptions by respectable families in a mostly Roman Catholic country have added further confusion to past events.
In those cases, births were sometimes registered fraudulently as being born to the adoptive mother. Lax adoption laws were not changed until 1987.
Journalists found a baby's corpse in a fridge, leading to rumours that bodies were kept to show parents who doubted their own child had died. A former clinic employee recently confirmed that babies were illegally given up for adoption.
A group of people born at the San Ramón and adopted by families from the Valencia region are among those now seeking their biological parents.
"The stolen children are looking for their parents and the mothers for their children," said Enrique Vila, the lawyer representing them.
Revelations that, in its early days, Franco's regime also removed children from new mothers deemed to be dangerously leftwing have added to mistrust of the medical system.
Campaigners insisted today that while the theft of babies may have originated in the early days of Franco, it had proved so lucrative that it continued after the dictator died.
Estefania Anguita, 24, wanted to know what happened to her twin sister, Amanda, born at La Alianza clinic in Barcelona in 1986.
"We were both born healthy, but two hours later they said she had died. The hospital said it buried her. There are five more cases from the same hospital."
Antonio Barroso, an adoptee who is leading the campaign, said: "If they refuse to accept the case then we will go to the European court of human rights at Strasbourg, because we are not going to stop."

Kidnap 'Miracle' FOUND !!!
7:58 am Jan. 20, 2011 | Tweet this article
Each day, the New York tabloids vie to sell readers at the newsstands on outrageous headlines, dramatic photography, and, occasionally, great reporting. Who is today's winner?
The New York Post: "FOUND!" is the big wood today, in knockout, black-outlined type over a bronze-tinted family photo depicting the reunion of Carlina White with her biological parents at least 23 years (there's a reason to put it that way—keep reading) after her kidnapping from Harlem Hospital.
They're all facing forward, Mom's arms around Carlina, Dad's arms around both of them.
It's a sweet photo (even though Mom and Dad are divorced some time now and each has a new family since they lost their daughter). "Child kidnapped from city hosp. 23 years ago" reads the dek, which since it's geographically north of that main hed makes sense in context. There's some lead text in a white box—with a red stripe across the top that says "EXCLUSIVE." The leader text refers to "this exclusive Post photo," but usually when it's only a photo exclusive you get a red snipe across one of the top corners that says "PHOTO EXCLUSIVE." The treatment we see today should mean the story is an exclusive, which will make anyone wonder who encounters the Post at the newsstand, sitting next to the Daily News.
Daily News: Of course the top of the page is some Jets stuff. Really, how many overextended visual metaphors can we expend between now and Sunday's Steelers game? The News advertises a big inside poster—they are really attached to this Bar Mitzvah caricaturist style of illustration over there! Santonio Holmes shares a last name with a certain famous turn-of-the-century sleuth, you see, so he's pictured in a plaid deerstalker cap with a matching waistcoat styled with his jersey number across the shoulders, his Jets uniform underneath, holding a pipe in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other that's pointed out toward the stands but nevertheless somehow has the Steelers logo in it. "GO JETS! IT'S ELEMENTARY!" reads some translucent white text over the lower-left corner. This poster is thumnailed at an angle across a lurid green box advertising "FREE JETS POSTER," with the word "FREE" in pale yellow and the rest in knockout white. The paper's flag has been adjusted: "DAILY NEWS" is in the same green as the box, and instead of the stylized old-fashioned box camera in the middle (the paper was once called "NEW YORK'S PICTURE NEWSPAPER") there's a Jets logo (in a shade of green more tasteful than on the rest of the page, and showing the slight difference between the shade used by the News and the actual Jets Green). And in red, beneath, where it usually says "NEW YORK'S HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER," it reads instead "NEW YORK'S GO-JETS NEWSPAPER." All of this cheerleading is par for the course and even kind of cute! But it's an ugly set-up just the same.
But the editorial weight of the page is with the bottom half, where the story of Carlina White appears. A postage-stamp hedcut photo of White is set inline with text reading "KIDNAP MIRACLE." The dek: "Snatched from Harlem Hospital in '87, she returns safely to loved ones 23 years later."
Observations: So does the Post have an exclusive? It's hard to tell.
You could call an interview with a story subject an exclusive as long as nobody else was on the call—but you probably wouldn't go great guns proclaiming that if you didn't get anything out of the interview that nobody else had.
What's more, there's the question of whether some of the information the Post has is exclusively wrong.
Discrepancies in the two newspapers' accounts are nothing new, especially on a complex story that's breaking fast and has a human-interest angle that demands immediate feature-style treatment.
But when the discrepancies concern basic facts about the case instead of complicated narrative bends, it gets tricky.
Let's start with the date of the kidnapping. Everyone agrees it was 1987, but beyond that it gets murky.
The Post cover declares it happened 23 years ago; but inside it says "some 23 years ago."
The News says 23 years on its cover, 24 years in its headline on the Web, and 23 years in the body text of the article.
Then there is the question of which quotes came from public press availabilities and which came from private interviews.
The Post has an "exclusive" photo; they claim an exclusive interview but some of the quotes in the Post piece pop up elsewhere, unattributed.
It's clear from the News story that a family meeting at LaGuardia airport was open to the press, and some things were said there.
Without being able to sort out which quotes come from which conversations, it's hard to break the tie.
In the case of the News, which does not claim an exclusive, the reasons for that would seem obvious. But in the case of the Post, it's more suspicious. Why isn't everything that they have all to themselves clearly noted that way?
There are more discrepancies. Here's the Post on the topic of the woman who Carlina White says raised her:
The Post takes responsibility both for the charges that an Agnotta Pettway abused drugs and that she hit Carlina with a shoe, only sourcing the fact that Agnotta Pettway was the woman who raised her
. But then there's this in the Post: "The US Justice Department will pursue the case against Ann Pettway."
Cassandra, Agnotta, Ann.
None of these creatures attributed as the fake "mother" to Carlina is mentioned as possibly being the nurse that took Carlina from the hospital back in 1987—after all, the kidnapper could have been working on behalf of the wanting mother, or could herself have decided to hand off the infant after the kidnapping.
But then there's the question of where this woman lives. The Post says it reached Pettway (Agnotta or Ann) "at her Raleigh, N.C. home." She told the paper she was heading up to Connecticut to "sort" everything out. The News says Cassandra Pettway lives in Georgia, and they reached her on her cell phone, where she said:
Either way, the "EXCLUSIVE" tag won't do much for the Post, since the paper sits side by side with the News on the stand, bearing the same story. So it all comes down to the better cover.
Whatever our wonderings about the Post's exclusivity claims, the photo is theirs—and it makes the cover.
Nor are they the worse in display copy: This was a lay-up, and the Post proves it. "KIDNAP MIRACLE" seems like a rubric or a dek, not a main hed. And anyway it's foggy:
The news is that the woman has been FOUND, not that there is a MIRACLE to do with her KIDNAP.

There are more discrepancies. Here's the Post on the topic of the woman who Carlina White says raised her:
The drug-abusing Agnotta Pettway—who has several aliases, according to Carlina—often abused her, once pummeling her with a shoe so hard that it left an imprint on her face. And here's the News:
A Bridgeport woman named Mary Pettway confirmed that her daughter, Cassandra, had raised Carlina. She refused to discuss the relationship further. And earlier:
Joy White said Carlina told her the woman was a drug user who abused her—once hitting her in the face with a shoe - and often left her alone to baby-sit her younger "brother."It seems the News is putting forth hearsay—but they're admitting it.

"Are you serious? What do you think my relationship is with her? Mother? No, that's why I won't talk to the media. They have it all wrong."No, I don't know what any of this means, either.
Either way, the "EXCLUSIVE" tag won't do much for the Post, since the paper sits side by side with the News on the stand, bearing the same story. So it all comes down to the better cover.

How interesting..and of course related to Madeleine McCann and not any other missing child. Medical records of Madeleine refused. How many people would believe in say, twenty years time, a child with Madeleines eye defect produced by the McCanns 'detectives' claiming this to be Madeleine. If the McCanns assured the public this really was their 'abducted' daughter...I think a large majority, which would be all that was needed ,would indeed believe. Mitchell fronting the story, I would put money on it.

The self-serving McCanns..knowing Madeleine is dead and not abducted...makes for sickening reading.... This article is from 2008. The McCanns aim, to be ambassadors of an American EU style Amber Alert...read the article and then read the links....
McCanns: 'Amber alert' could've saved Maddie
Kate and Gerry McCann today pleaded for Europe-wide backing for a cross-border missing child alert system.

Kate and Gerry McCann
Mrs McCann told a meeting at the European Parliament in Brussels: "We employ you to support our declaration. Please do not wait for another child and family to suffer as we have".Mr McCann said: "This is a very simple child alert system with almost no cost implications - who would not support such a system?"
But the couple heard from MEPs today that efforts two years ago to introduce the same missing child plan failed to get sufficient support to succeed.
Today hopes were high that their high-profile loss of Madeleine will help galvanise full backing in the European Parliament and from EU governments.
They explained their continuing pain at Madeleine's disappearance last year. Mrs McCann told MEPs: "I cannot explain just how totally devastating this was. If anyone was wanting to inflict the greatest amount of pain on us then they have done that".
She told reporters the couple would treat the anniversary of Maddie's disppearance as a 'private affair'.
The McCann's discussed the American system during a visit to Washington last month and are convinced EU countries can cooperate in setting up a similar rapid response network.
Mr McCann told MEPs about the high success rate of "Amber Alert", under which nearly 400 abducted children have been successfully recovered in America since 2003 - 80% of them rescued in the crucial first 72 hours after being snatched.
By contrast Europe can only claim limited success in cross-border cooperation, with only a patchwork of partial national monitoring systems.
European data-sharing on child abduction cases is limited, and so far only France and Belgium have introduced comprehensive national child alert systems.
They enable national authorities to flash up electronic missing child information on motorway signboards within 30 minutes of a confirmed case of abduction, as well as triggering bulletins and radio and television stations, interrupting existing programming in the first hours after a case is notified.
Mr McCann said it was now up to European authorities to cooperate in spreading the same system across all EU countries.
He said statistics from America showed that a speedy response was critical in such cases and the system should only be reserved for the most serious abductions, where the authorities believe a child's life is at risk and where detailed information on the child and, hopefully, the abductor can be spread as swiftly as possible.
Then he read out the declaration that the McCann's hope European Parliament will approve.
It calls on all EU governments to introduce a missing child alert system, "the activation of which shall require the immediate supply to relevant news media, order authorities, customs and law enforcement agencies of details of the missing child and the suspected abductors".
She also spoke about the fear and pain that her daughter must have been through, adding: "She is four years old".
